What is the Camperdown Cruise all about?

The first Cruise was held in 2007 with 15 custom and classic cars and hot rods attending, being the brainchild of Arthur from Relic Restorations in Camperdown.

In 2008 word of mouth ensured Arthur had a bigger and better Cruise with 120 cars attending, raising more than $2000 for the local Midwifery Unit (although that didn’t keep the rain away).

By 2009, the Cruise was on everyone’s lips, with over 300 cars and 3000 people attending on the Saturday alone and six rockabilly bands performing across three days, morphing the custom car event into a rockabilly 50’s festival and family weekend.

In 2010 our numbers of entries and visitors tripled with over 9,000 people attending the Cruise throughout the weekend. 12 Rockabilly bands and additional venues were on offer to help keep the Cruise rocking all weekend.

Who are the Camperdown Cruise Inc.?

The Camperdown Cruise Inc. was formed in late 2009 as a not-for-profit community organisation made up of local volunteers to help Arthur run the Cruise.

Hospital Donations

·  100% of money raised to date has gone to supporting the Camperdown Hospital and Merindah Lodge.

· Raised $9,267 over two years for purchasing vital equipment that improves local health services.

In 2010, the Cruise’s donation provided a new Tub Chair for Residents of Merindah Lodge.

In 2009, the Cruise’s donation allowed the Midwifery Unit to purchase a Billi Blanket, which helps treat jaundiced babies. Of the 65 or so births at Camperdown hospital each year, close to 10 per cent need jaundice treatment.

As soon as the Blanket arrived, it saved a baby and new mum the stress of having to be transferred to Warrnambool.
